Updated Katong District Cubs Calendar

Dear all,
 
Kindly take note of the following events and the respective ICs for our District Calendar:
- Explorer Camp (Honey Bees, Ngee Ann)
- First Aid (Osprey)
- Campcraft (Sun)
- Orienteering (Osprey)
 
The following Packs have not responded their preferred events:
- Dove
- St. Stephens
- Marlin
- Owls
 
Please do so by 12 Feb so that I can spend my LNY doing up the calendar. Not nice to owe stuff across the New Year ah...
 
Otherwise, I will take it that your Pack will NOT be participating in any of the above mentioned district events.

DISTRICT AMAZING RACE, EXPLORE! 2010 (DARe 2010)

I am pleased to announce that the District Amazing Race, Explore! 2010 is now open for
application.

The District Amazing Race, Explore! is a competition open to all sections. This inaugural
event is organised to commemorate 100th Years of Scouting in Singapore. Through this
competition, greater bonds and friendships can be fostered not just among each
individual unit but also among the district. The Scouts will also learn about the rich history
of Scouting in Singapore as well.

It will be a good opportunity for us to all come together as a district once again!

The details are as follow:
Date of Event: 10 April 2010, Saturday
Time: 0800 hours to 1800 hours (Scouts and Ventures)
1200 hours to 1800 hours (Cubs)
Venue: Pasir Ris Park Amphitheatre (Reporting Venue)
Pasir Ris Park/ East Area of Singapore
Attire: PT-Kit with unit/ school t-shirt and scarf
Fee: SGD $14 per team
Mode of Payment*: Cheque (made to The Singapore Scout Association) / Unit Fund /
School Fund only.
* All forms to be sent to the District Scout Leader as below
* Teams without payment will be rejected.
Eligibility: Cubs, Scouts and Ventures
Event Capacity: Maximum of 2 teams per scout unit
Maximum of 2 teams per venture unit
Unlimited of teams per cub unit (first-come-first-serve)
Closing Date: 3 March 2010

NOTE: Participating units are required to send at least one
accompanying leader during the event during the planning
` and/or execution process.

NOMINATION FOR BADEN POWELL AWARD 2009

The Baden Powell Award is a much coveted award for Rovers in the Scout Movement.  The award represents the final phase of scouting education. It has gained the reputation in the fellowship of Rovering worldwide as an award which epitomizes the Scouting values and spirit as envisioned by the Founder.

The Singapore Scout Association (SSA) is pleased to announce that the nomination of the Baden Powell Award 2009 is now open for all eligible Rovers. To be eligible for the nomination, the Rover must complete all the requirements of the Revised Rover Progress Scheme (RPS).  The RPS has replaced the pre-2005 scheme since the beginning of 2008. Rovers who are still pursuing the old scheme must switch to the Revised RPS, which is a more holistic personal development programme.

The eligible Rover must be a registered member of SSA and be nominated by the District Commissioner.  In addition, he must obtain good character referrals from 2 peers and the Rover Scout Leader or the Unit Group Scout Leader. The nomination must be endorsed by the Asst. Chief Commissioner (Area).

RE:          Revised Frank Cooper Sands Award 2009 Form (Rovers)

With reference to our previous letter dated 1 December 2009 in regards to the Submission of Frank Cooper Sands Award 2009.

Enclosure is a revised copy of the FCSA 2009 Form (Rovers) 260110.doc for your necessary action.

It has been updated with the relevant Rover Programme and the Rover Progress Scheme in line with the SSA’s Policy Organization and Rules, last updated in 2008.  This form will replace the previous form released to Rover Crews on 1 December 2009 with immediate effect.

Your crews will be assessed based on the criteria and overall scores which the FCSA will be awarded accordingly to the points for Bronze, Silver and Gold categories.

Please submit your FCSA 2009 Form to Scout HQ by 09 February 2010.

Incomplete document submission, fax or non-original copy submission will not be accepted.

Health Trooper Badge Programme 2010

RE: Health Trooper Badge Programme 2010
The Singapore Scout Association is in collaboration with HealthZone of the Health Promotion Board for the new Health Trooper Badge Programme to replace the old Healthy Lifestyle Proficiency Badge Course.
It is designed to include more levels of challenge for Cub Scouts, Scouts and Venture Scouts as well as more interactive activities to interest our youth members in health issued. It aims to promote greater awareness on the importance of having a healthy lifestyle amongst them. Through workshops, games, tests and hands-on health assignments, all youth members can pick up health tips and essential skills to better manage their health.

A Unit Leader's Briefing has been scheduled to enable you to further understand the course. Each Unit is required to send a Unit Leader to attend the Unit Leader’s Briefing.

The Health Trooper Badge Programme is now open to Cub Scouts and Scouts for registration. The Supreme Health Trooper Badge for Venture Scouts will be opened at a later date.

Primary School Level: Junior Health Trooper Badge Course
- Open to Cub Scouts (aged 9-10 years) or Pri. 3 to 4.
- Course Fee: $3.00 per participant/Scout
- Closing Date: (Sat) 6 February 2010
